JOY STAR (ΤΖΟΪ ΣΤΑΡ)

-Joy Cruises

Built in 1993 (age 31). Registered in Piraeus. Current line: Rhodes-Chalki-Tilos-Nisyros-Kos

The small passenger ship JOY STAR was built in 1993 in Ukraine, being one of many sister ships built in the late 1980s and 1990s that were acquired by Greek companies. She was initially known as the SARONIC STAR of the Greek company Saronic Cruises and she operated on the Zea-Hydra-Poros-Aegina line as a one-day cruise ship. In 1999 she was sold to the Samos-based company Samos Ships and she was renamed SAMOS STAR. She moved to the Northeast Aegean Sea and she operated on the Patmos-Samos-Kuşadası line. In 2010 she was sold to Samian Cruises and she remained on the Patmos-Samos-Kuşadası line until her company ceased operations in 2016, and she was laid-up in Siğacık. She stayed there until 2018, when she was sold at auction to the Corfu-based company Joy Cruises. She was renamed JOY STAR and she was deployed on the Corfu-Paxoi-Antipaxoi line on the Ionian Sea. In 2021 she underwent a conversion in Perama, during which her stern was refitted in order to accommodate vehicles, thus making her a small ferry. She was deployed on the Rhodes-Tilos-Nisyros-Kos line on the Dodecanese. In 2022 she returned to the Corfu-Paxoi-Antipaxoi line. She did not operate during the summer of 2023 as she remained laid-up in Perama, but she was reactivated in 2024 and she returned to the Rhodes-Tilos-Nisyros-Kos line.
